I got up at 9am today. I put my laundry by the front door last night in case the lavadero man came before I got up. I got dressed and ate breakfast: a stale media luna and tostadas with dulce de leche and, of course, my two cups of hot chocolate. If that is not a healthy breakfast to eat every morning, I don’t know what it! Today was a special day because I finished my first contained of dulce de leche and started on my second. It is a different brand and is thicker, but still good, although I think I like the first brand with the brown cow on the package better. Fani left for a doctor appointment at 9:45, leaving me alone in the apartment. I listened to music and wrote some blog entries and spent some time reading my Bible and journaling. I made my peanut butter and bread concoction to take to class. Fani came back as I was getting ready to leave. I left about noon and walked to class. Jenny and Will were already there even though I was fifteen minutes early. Will was reading the newspaper that is published by the universities in Buenos Aires and is free for students. I couldn’t find one this morning so Will let me read over his shoulder. The strike is still going on for the airlines so the CEA students are taking a micro back. At 12:27, we were still the only three there, but the teacher and rest of the class came soon. We continued our work with the subjunctive. We played a little game where we each had to write a description of ourselves and then Eugenia mixed up the papers and passed them out. We then had to describe the “media naraja” or soulmate for each person and we had to guess who it was describing. We were pretty good at guessing, but it was funny because several people slipped and instead of saying media naranja, they said media luna. It was pretty hysterical! We had our lunch break at 2, as always, and I stayed in the room and ate my PB creations and an apple. Jenny started talking about the paper she is writing for her sociology class here and she said that she wished she could write it in English. She is writing about the economic and political situation of Argentina and how it affected the middle class. After the “pausa,” we continued discussing grammar stuff. It was all really technical and made my brain hurt. During our “coffee break,” I ran up and checked my email and then ate a banana and granola bar. The last part of our class, all the students were dragging from overexposure to grammar technicalities. Eugenia assigned homework and we left. However, tomorrow we have class at 8:30 in the morning! This means that I will have to get up by 7… quite a change from my normal routine here. Will and I walked home with his friend, Aaron. They are going to a place 22 hours south of here (by bus) this next weekend to see the whales. I went back to my apartment and was greeted by Fani. I felt bad because she has to get up so early to feed me. I could definitely handle getting my own breakfast, but she won’t let me. I jumped in the shower (still freezing cold, as usual) and did my homework before dinner. I had a big bowl of soup, a chicken patty thing, a cucumber, shredded carrots, and flan. I couldn’t eat it all. I think she gives me more food every day! I looked through my Buenos Aires guide book trying to decide what I want to do tomorrow. I think most of the girls in my class want to go shopping. Will is visiting an engineering school and some other things that don’t really interest me, so I am not sure yet what I will do. I think I might venture out on my own and visit some museums. I should have made my list of things I want to do here before this so I could easily see what would be sensible to do in terms of location. Oh well, tomorrow during the pausa I can finalize my plans. Fani broke the bathroom lightswitch before going to bed. I am going to head to bed now because I have to be up bright and early!
